In the continuing onslaught of FinePix cameras this morning, FujiFilm also announced a pair of 8 megapixel (1/2.5-inch CCD) shooters: the S8000fd and Z100fd (pictured). The fixed lens S8000fd features a Fujinon 18x optical zoom lens and a high-speed, mechanical CCD-shift stabilization, electric viewfinder or 2.5-inch LCD, VGA video at 30fps, and a continuous shot mode capable of 15 shots per second at a 2 megapixel resolution. The Z100fd is pretty much the Z10fd for grown-ups. It brings a 5x optical zoom, IrSimple infrared, and the CCD-shift mechanical image stabilization found in its bulkier cuz. The S8000fd is scheduled to hit The States in September for $400 while the Z100fd will hit Asia around the same time frame for ¥40,000 or about $332.

In an excruciatingly uncomfortable press release, FujiFilm promises to “hook up” generation Z’s “fashion-conscious digital natives” with the launch of their new Z10fd digital camera. Besides sporting the five colors of Zebra Stripped gum, this 7.2 megapixel cam packs face recognition, auto-red eye correction, a dual-shot mode, xD/SD/SDHC support, and an over-inflated “blog mode” which quickly resizes any image into VGA or QVGA sizes. It also allows the kids to instantly share their snaps with any IrSimple capable infrared device — a seriously short list outside of Japan. Perhaps the most troubling bit is FujiFilm’s new “offzhook” website which will celebrate the “Z-lifestyle” when the camera launches in October. Thing is, generation Z is typically defined as being born after 2001. So why the hell is FujiFilm marketing digicams to 6 year olds?

Step aside Mary Lou Retton, there’s a new pint-sized powerhouse loose in the US. Meet the $300 F50fd from FujiFilm which stuffs that ridiculous 12 megapixel, 1/1.6-inch CCD into this FinePix’s slim chassis with 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD in tow. The cam sports a dual-shot mode (one with and one without flash taken in rapid succession), xD/SD/SDHC expansion, and FujiFilm’s v2.0 Face Detection tech, a mechanically stabilized CCD sensor and the ability to shoot at ISO 1600 at full resolution. It will also be one of the first domestic shooters to support IrSimpleShot (IrSS) high speed data transfer when it enters the US market in September. And here you thought infrared was dead you silly, silly boy.

It’s been a tick since we’ve seen a new in-car accident recorder hit the market, but just in case none of the previous flavors caught your eye, Clarion’s DRC-3 DriveEye can certainly do the trick. Per usual, this wee camera attaches to your windshield, and when an impact or sudden braking / acceleration is detected, it captures the 20 seconds before and after the event. Moreover, the built-in power backup system ensures that your recordings stay in tact regardless of electronic failures within the vehicle, and just in case you feel like logging a few frames of that Lambo ahead, the manual recording button allows you to indulge. ¥49,800 ($411) gets you the camera, a 128MB CF card, and all the sensors and switches needed to rig this up, but here’s to hoping you never actually need it for legal proceedings.

Those looking for a few more extras on their next navigation system have a growing number of choices, but Altina is upping the ante by cramming even more gadgetry than usual inside its A680. Specs wise, you’ll find a 400MHz Samsung processor, a four-inch 480 x 272 resolution LCD, 64MB of NAND RAM, 128MB of SDRAM, a SIRFstarIII module, integrated stereo speakers, headphone out, and an SD expansion slot for any excess media. Additionally, there’s USB connectivity, an FM transmitter, two-megapixel digital camera, AV input jack for flicks (or gaming) on the go, and a rechargeable Li-ion that should prove handy if you make your way into the wilderness. Sadly, there’s no pricing information available on this do-it-all device, but we’ve got a hunch it won’t make it outside of China anyway.

Casio, a company well known for its small electronics, but probably not so well known for its philanthropic interests, will soon be releasing a special edition of its EXILIM digital camera in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The limited-edition pink EX-Z75 is a 7.3 megapixel digital compact, with a 2.6-inch widescreen LCD, 3x optical zoom, Anti-Shake DSP for controlling your nervous hands, and something the company calls “eBay mode,” presumably for when you decide to put your old camera on the auction block. A bundle including the camera, a case embossed with the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s signature pink ribbon, and a similarly styled lanyard will go on sale in October for $179.99.

Here’s one straight out of left field. While we were all anxiously affixed on Sony and Canon waiting for either to kick out a CMOS-packin’ point-and-shoot camera, along comes Kodak to shake things up. Apparently, those five-megapixel CMOS sensors it had been working on are ready to rock, as the firm’s EasyShare C513 includes one along with a 3x optical zoom, 2.4-inch LCD monitor, digital image stabilization, video capture, and in-camera editing functions. Best of all, this entry-level device is priced at just $99, and while this pioneering unit is slated to hit shelves next month, we’ve got a sneaking suspicious the flood gates are about to bust wide open with CMOS-stuffed pocket cams.

Those in the market for a rebranded generic digital camera may want to hold off on your bargain-basement purchase for a while: German company Praktica announced two new models today, which means the faceplate engineers at Rollei and other formerly well-regarded camera makers are hard at work in their rebranding labs as we speak. Both new cams have 7.2 megapixel sensors with 3X optical zooms and face recognition, but the metal-bodied luxmedia 7403 (pictured) also features a 3.0-inch screen, 32MB of memory, and an MP3 player, while DPix 740Z sets a new standard for forgettability, with a chunky plastic body, 2.4-inch LCD, just 16 MB of internal memory, and the unforgivable downgrade to USB 1.1. No word on pricing or availability, but trust us — you’ll see these on darker street corners soon enough.

Panasonic just unveiled a trio of new Lumix shooters: the wide angle DMC-FX33 and DMC-FX55 with 3-inch LCD and FZ18 with 18x optical zoom. Kicking things off are the two nearly identical 28-mm wide angle compacts. The FX33 bests its FX30 sib by packing an 8.1 megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD and new light sensor to increase the 2.5-inch LCD’s brightness when in direct sunlight. The FX55 then, brings the same pixel count along with that monster 3-inch LCD and same 28-mm wide angle, 3.6x optical zoom LEICA DC lens. The DMC-FZ18 meanwhile, brings the same CCD sensor and face detection tech only with a 28-mm wide angle, 18x optical zoom Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens. All three ship in a variety of colors and with Panny’s optical image stabilization which will definitely come in handy on the biggie zoom.
