Behind every picture you take is over a century of imaging science dedicated to giving you quality pictures. Kodak color science and imaging technologies are used by professional photographers and professional color labs, and are even incorporated in imaging systems that have traveled to outer space.Human perception of color is a science in itself – one in which Kodak has excelled for more than a century. Human vision is the result of your eyes and brain working together. The rods and cones in the retina of the human eye convert light intensity and color respectively into electrical impulses that are sent to the brain where they are converted into information about what we are seeing. Likewise, the sensor in a digital camera converts light intensity and color information from the scene into a picture file that represents the original scene. Kodak scientists developed the color filter pattern that allows most of today’s image sensors to “see in color. This color filter array allows a single image sensor to capture the red, green, and blue components of an image in one “click.

To produce a high quality color image, the sophisticated algorithms of Kodak color science process the raw image signal in Kodak Easyshare digital cameras. Kodak color science controls the essential elements of image quality by determining proper exposure, auto white balance, and accurate color reproduction.
